BLOGGER SERIES KICKOFF! :: Self-Discovery, Word by Word

October 5, 2010 58 Comments by Ashley @ Nourishing the Soul

Welcome to the official launch of a brand-spanking new series, brought to you courtesy of myself and some absolutely amazing bloggers. And hopefully soon brought to the rest of the blogging community by YOU!

So.. what the heck is this?

This new monthly series is called Self-Discovery, Word by Word. In it, the host (myself for October) will encourage the blogging community to engage in meaningful self-reflection by focusing on just one word. Then the host will ask you to write a post in which you share your own thoughts, reflections, and experiences with regard to that word (and the host will do the same, of course!). You’ll then share your post on your own blog and send the host the link, which will be shared in a round-up at the end of each month’s series.

And this is important – you’ll want to share the link to THIS post in your own entry and encourage others to participate!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

And, what exactly is the point?

The goal of this series is to challenge ourselves to reflect on ideas that we may not often consider in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. The words that are chosen are meant to provoke thought and ultimately growth. As part of the blogging community (whether you are a blog reader or a have your own), we all have a unique opportunity to share our insights, our struggles, and our triumphs to help each other develop in new ways. The words selected will be broad and hopefully of interest to all types of bloggers and readers.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

How does it work again, exactly?

All you need to do is check out the first series word below and start thinking. Put together a post that has to do with the topic and feel free to add the image below. Just copy the image and save as a file, then upload into your post!

Once you’ve published your post, send me the link between now and midnight (EST) on October 19th. If you do not have a blog, you can send me your thoughts and reflections in one paragraph to share as well and I’ll round them up to share on NTS.

Send all links and non-blog entries to me at nourishingthesoulblog@gmail.com.

It’s easy as pie!

The round-up of October’s Self-Discovery, Word By Word Series will be posted on Thursday, October 20th right here on NTS.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

OK, I get it. So what’s up first?

To kick off what will hopefully be a long and successful series, I’m throwing at you one of my absolute favorite topics…

GRATITUDE.

I’m tasking each of you to take a few moments, or even longer, to give gratitude some thought and share in writing (or photos, video, whatever!) what this word means to you. If you need some help, consider what you’re grateful for today – the people in your life, the sun, moon, and stars, the new workout your just mastered, the individuals who grow and harvest the food you eat. Write  a letter of gratitude. Make a list. Tell a story. Heck, sing a song! The possibilities are endless. Think broadly and don’t limit yourself. Let’s help promote an attitude of gratitude one blogger at at time. I’ll be sharing my own thoughts on gratitude later this week and hope that you’ll do the same.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

But I still have questions…

Email me at nourishingthesoulblog@gmail.com if you are still struggling with how this works. I’m happy to help!

So, are you going to join in the fun?

Really looking forward to this. What a great word to begin with too. As both a concept and part of speech, gratitude is not as large in our collective eyes as it should be these days. The wheels are spinning…
