2012 Nourishing Body Image Awards Nominations OPEN!
And we’re back! After a bit of a hiatus (oops, where did 2011 go?) it’s time to re-launch the Nourishing Body Image Awards. The 2010 awards were one of the most fun and exciting things that Nourishing the Soul has undertaken, and I’m thrilled to revive this project!
In case you missed the last go-round, the Nourishing Body Image Awards are an opportunity to recognize and promote all of the amazing individuals and organizations promoting a healthy self-image. It’s a chance to say thank you to those who are bravely challenging the status quo (you know, the one that says we should hate ourselves and take this pill and not eat that). They are the ones on the front lines of the battle against self-doubt and body dissatisfaction.
While body image is the name of the game, the idea expands beyond cultivating a healthier view of one’s physical being. It also includes nurturing our whole selves – body, mind, and spirit. It encompasses what Nourishing the Soul is all about – helping us have a better relationship with ourselves so that we can live vibrant, healthy, valued lives.
So, here’s how we get started!
- First, you can submit your nominations for the categories below in three ways: commenting in the space below this post, posting your votes on the facebook page, or emailing me. Please make all nominations by Friday, October 26, 2012.
- I’ll tally the nominations and select the top three nomination getters to be featured when the awards are announced. In the event that the top three receive the same number of nominations, I’ll hold a vote on NTS to determine the winner. The other two will be runners up.
- I’ll share the results in one super-awesome post on Monday, November 5, 2012.
- ALL nominees and winners will be invited to share these Nourishing Body Image status by displaying the oh-so-coveted badge above on their site. Here’s a sneak peek:
Okay. Here we go. The categories for the 2012 Awards are as follows:
Best Body Image Blogger
Best Body Image Website
Most Body Positive Television Show, Movie, or Documentary
Most Body Positive Magazine or Book
Most Body Positive Advertising Campaign
Best Body Image Post or Article
Best Body Image Boosting Organization
Most Body Loving Company
Best Body Positive Photo or Image
Most Body Positive Celebrity
Please note that you are welcome to make more than one nomination, even for the same category
And here’s how you can get even more involved in spreading the nourishing body image spirit!
To make things even more interesting, if you share this kick-off page with others via facebook, twitter, or on your blog, you will be entered to win a copy of the ah-mazing Mara Glatzel’s Body Loving Homework (valued at $27). And if you grab the button below and add it to the sidebar of a blog, you get TWO entries.

All you gotta do is let me know via the comments below that you shared this page.
Looking forward to learning about all the great resources out there. Start nominating… NOW!

Dear Ashley,
I wholeheartedly second Arianna’s nomination for the “Best Body Image Blogger” category.
It’s rare to find people who genuinely care about the welfare and well being of others, and are deeply passionate and motivated to empower them in overcoming obstacles. Arianna’s ambitiousness, enthusiasm, and boundless positive energy are truly infectious, and clearly apparent in the blog, “Arianna’s Random Thoughts”.

I nominate Endangered Bodies NY. Through activism, we share our aim to expose the industries that profit from body insecurity, to challenge sexual objectification, to call out size discrimination, and to create social conditions which will enable girls to grow up loving — not hating or rejecting — their bodies. We are part of a global initiative called Endangered Bodies. Please see our new website, and see our sticker campaign: Join the Resistance | Love Your Body.

So Looking forward to the awards and the resource list they will bring. I tried to grab the button for my blog but it kept giving me the word “photobucket” instead of the image? Any ideas?

I would like to nominate Rewrite Beautiful for the Best Body Image Boosting Organization. It is a non-profit organization that emphasizes and focuses on beauty as an action, rather than the stereotypical outwardly appearance, and that beauty is shown through creativity, kindness, and strength. Rewrite Beautiful is a revolution to change with art how girls see beauty in themselves while preventing eating disorders. I think that Rewrite Beautiful is an incredibly inspirational organization because it focuses on whole body health and inner beauty, and it works to prevent the detrimental consequences of eating disorders. It has given so many girls the opportunity to see a different perspective of their beauty and their body image. Specifically, it brings truth to a matter — eating disorders — that is rarely addressed in society and other organizations and gives young women the opportunity to realize that their beauty can be shown not through a scale or by measurement, but through their talents, gifts, and actions. It helps young women rewrite their definition of beautiful.
