You Should Know :: GaiamTV

I’m happy to report that I’ve come quite a long way since my first experience with yoga. It’s hard to believe how much I’ve developed in the nearly two years since I wrote that post. Not so much in my physical abilities, per se, (handstands are not – and may never be – my forte) but certainly in my understanding, familiarity, and appreciation of the practice.
I recently discovered a pretty awesome resource for continuing to build my practice that I’m excited to share. It’s called GaiamTV, and it’s like having a yoga-based Netflix at your disposal (Netflix, by the way, does have a few decent yoga videos for home-delivery and by streaming, but nothing like this.)
GaiamTV is a new channel that allows you to experience the power of yoga via your computer – or any other device that can stream the internet. As you might expect, there are tons and tons of yoga practices that you can stream and try at home. This has been awesome for me to infuse some variety without spending a fortune on a studio (and replaying the four DVDs I have for the sixty-eight time each). You can select the videos by level, style, teacher, time you have, or special interests (e.g. prenatal, workplace yoga).
Outside of the Yoga Studio portion of the site, there are lots of other sections to inspire and educate. There’s a Wellness Studio with programs on things like insomnia, massage for couples, and mediation for beginners. There’s also a decent-size collection of documentaries on (sometime random) things like the development of the printing press, miracle dogs, and extreme environments. The ones I’ve checked out have kept me pretty entertained, and feeling a little smarter. For anyone interested in the spiritual or metaphysical side of things, there’s stuff for you too.
I’m interested to hear if anyone else has checked out GaiamTV or has other yoga-resources to suggest.

I’ve heard great things about Gaiam and also about YogaGlo- similar concept. I wish I Had the discipline to practice yoga at home- but I really need the accountability of showing up to a class. I do some stretching & a few poses while watching TV sometimes, but not a really good session.
